The Pros Answer to Defending the Smash & Option Routes vs the Cover 2

For the Coaches that run the cover 2, we all know that while the corners are occupied with the “Jam” and release of the #1 receiver. The offense will run “options” and “smash” routes trying to get the quick 5 to 6 yards.

The Problem

Just think, a possible 5 to 6 yard gain by just taking advantage of the natural hole in the defense.

What the Quarterback is keying is the front side corners on #1. Once the corner makes contact and turns his back to the QB, the option route is coming.

The Answer

This is just an example, but more variations of different formations will be displayed along with the necessary adjustments. Due to the amount of information only 3-4 plays will be displayed in much greater detail every month  , but once a play has been displayed on the site you will always be able to access that play.
